I LOVE shires and have been pleading mom and dad ever since I can remember. If I got a shire mare I would have definatly stud her to Ideal. I have a strong feeling though that once I graduate I'm going to own a shire ranch!

Excellent site! I now own "Rosie" the Clyde mare that I've wanted ever since talking to Christine about her over 2 years ago. She had sold her but I found her and bought her. She's doing great up here in Canada and takes people for rides in our 1906 Democrat carriage. You can see her on my website dressed in her finest under "Our Wedding Girl" link!

First of all CONGRATULATIONS on Gracie's recognition from Breyer, it just shows the world what you knew all along. That she is a true example of what a shire should be. I want to thank you and your farm for the wounderfull work and love that you put into this breed. The shire is in a class of thier own and the phrase "gentle giant" comes right along with that. As a past rider and lover of this breed at Iron Slipper Farms I learned that this breed not only a passion but a way of living. Your site truley brings the breed its recognition in this world. Not only that but with the new introduction of the gypsy pony and the drum horses, I feel that the shire breed as a whole has a new and extremley bright future ahead of them all...Thank You once again for your davotion and love for this great breed.

Hi! My name is Hanna and i am 11 y/o. Turning 12 in July. I would do anything for a horse! I have been riding since i was 1. I love shires they are my favorite breed! But my family has no money for a horse. Or for riding lessons. I really wish i could have at least one Shire. Or at least have one named after me. That would be awsome. That is one of my life dreams, to raise Shires. But sadly i wont be able to even have a Shire until i can make enough money by myself :(:(:( Thank*You for listening!
Love Always

Thank you for gracing the internet with such an informative site. There aren't many members of the beautiful, rare draft breeds in this area and the wonderful photographs on your website are a blessing. I know that with breeders like you around, I'll one day get to experience the majesty of a well-bred Shire. :]

Hello, I'm not sure if I can thank you for this! I now realize that my days as an exclusively small horse owner are very numbered indeed. I have long wondered which draft breed it is that has most stolen my heart, and after admiring the innumerable merits of Gracie and Ideal, I've soundly become a member of the Shire horse community, at least in my heart. Someday, I hope one of your beautiful horses will grace my life!

Deal is the most amazing creature I've ever seen! I used to own a 3/4 black percheron, and since I've gone back to school, I had to sell him. I always thought I would get a Freisian once I'm finished, but your Deal has made me realize that maybe a Shire would be most suited to my dreams!

Just wanted to check out this site - It's GREAT!
Anyone know of a breeding school in Colorado? If so, I'd like to attend. Please e-mail me and let me know.
I am designing a webpage in memory of "Badger" my English Shire, who died on January 23rd 2003 in Kent, UK.
Unfortunately I was not able to say goodbye to him. So, once my page is up and running, I will let you know of the address.
Thank you all you horse lovers...

I have recently come across a picture of my great-great grandfather in Danville, Ill with a horse that was refered to as a shire. He was well-known for his horses and sold them to the circus' on their way north in the summer. His family came here in 1851 from Tempsford Bedfordshire, Eng. and brought breeding stock with them. The picture was taken around 1900 or maybe earlier. His horse was "Anchor".

Hello my name is Michelle and ive just wanted to say that I love you site its one of my favorites due to the fact that i absolutely love horses. Ive always wanted one, but unfortunately my parents just wont let me have on, I think its because we cant really afford one, Ive always especially wanted a Shire or a Clydesdale but I probably wont be able to get one until Iam living on my own. I have a dream to one day live out in the country and own a ranch, and i plan on making this come true no matter how long it takes me, but iam determined to get a horse of my own also very soon. Iam always riding my best friends horses and i absolutely love it, and i know that I would take absolutely great care of it. i love all animals but horses mostly. Its usually on my Christmas list each year to one day get a horse (a mare perferably) but while iam living with my parents I dont think it would happen. I think you have the most beautiful shires that i have ever seen and i can tell that you take great care of then and love then very much. Gracie and Heidi are my two favorite ones because my favorite color of a horse is dapple grey , I think that Grey horses are just absolutely beautiful. But as for Heidi she has beautiful marking and is just such a pretty color. Well thank you for creating this site because when iam down or sad I always go to this site and it just really puts a smile on my face!!!!!
Sincerely,
Michelle Marion

these are truly nice horses.it looks like you have kept the breed true and pure and not messed around with the blood lines.like so many people are doing today making a breed of horse something that it was not meant to be or made to be,which angers me. i wish to on day own a quarter horse/shire or percheron cross some day. truly awesome horses i think.

I've been visiting your site often due to my fondness of and interest in Gypsy horses. Thanks to your site you just earner yourself a new customer although it won't be for approx two years (I'm a housewife who is now going back to work just to afford two nice Gypsy mares in about two years). You will be who I come to when I'm ready.
All the horses you display are just breathtaking and I couldn't be more impressed with the show and breeding stands you openly take. I will be very proud to become another one of your happily impressed customers.

I was wondering, how can I know, where the horses on studbook are from?
I mean, it's obvious, that horses, which are registered to ASHA, are from America, and horses on CSHA are from Canada, right? And then SHS is from Great Britain? But when horse is registered on every those books, is SHS the first place and the country of the birth? Pleased for anser, thanks!

I live near Gloucester"shire" It was named after the earl Robert Gloucester rode a shire horse into town and robbed the local bank in 1678. Although Robert managed to get the money from the bank having a horse far slower than the chasing pack meant that he was caught very quickly.
He was be-headed on the site that is now Gloucestershire abbey.
An interesting fact i thought i would share with you.

Hi there, my friend led me to your page (ironically, on a search for the difference between tobiano and overo), but I loved reading your showing policy. That rocks. If more people followed that way of thinking, I'm sure that the SPCA would have less complaints of horse abuse. Keep it up!

Hi, I just surfed here looking for pics of black horses to send to my friend in Malaysia (which is a Chinese speaking country, along with Maylay). It was the Chinese New Year a couple of days ago on Tuesday 12 Feb. 02 (and Mardi Gras as well as Lincoln's B-Day). It is now the Chinese "Year of the Black Horse". I liked your site although I'm not much of a horse fan. I will pass it along to my bass player and former keyboard player who are "horse people" as I call them. They ride for a volunteer horse posse here in Northern Minnesota (Marshall County Sherriff's Mounted Posse) and they help out with search and rescue as well as body recovery searches too. Anyway, I am bookmarking your site as I really liked the jousting section. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Well, I continued to look over your site and just had to write back and tell you how much I learned about the shire breed. I now know what "scotch" shoes! I commend you for keeping your horses natural. It is heartbreaking some of the things people do do their beloved companions all in the name of competion. I can't wait for the day when the judges see the natural horses for what they are...the real thing. Thanks!

I have loved Shires ever sence I was little. I remember going with my unckle to the rodios in Rosevelt Utah and seeing his shires perform in the horse pulling event. I love Gracie and Ideal. Those two could be to horses what Adam and Eve are to "men". Thank you for sharing what you love with us.

Such gorgeous creatures! I spent two hours today cruising your site and loved that Troika Drafts were in Maine, my state! I have always adored the heavy horses, though the two equines I currently own are a driving pony and a mini stallion. :) Your horses and your site are beautiful; keep up the great work! I saved your site to my faves so I can see all the new foals! :):)

I am a breeder of Shires in Australia and I have the only 2 grey Shires in Australia (as well as black, brown and bay). I have 6 of them, 2 English Imported mares (1 imported in foal, producing Australia's only grey Shire stallion) I looked at Earnshaw Ideal when he was at Peterborough as a youngster. He is a very fine horse. Good to see others enjoying their Shires.

Being in Mexico does have some disadvantages though since I can't really be around horses much so if you have any good horse websites that I can go to or if you have any info I can have please write me. They are all so beautiful. I am in love with Shire horses. I have a 23yr old Morgan now. His name is Knight. He looks like a mini Shire. I have owned him for a year. He is my first. I think I will be retireing him this year. He knows dressage, hunt seat, driving and we tried so team penning but he didn't like that very much so we are just sticking to trails. I am also starting to see symptoms of Cushings disease which apparently is prominent in older Morgans but I refuse to sell him. He has changed owners on an average of every 3 yrs he has done his service teaching everyone else to ride now he can just retire and take it easy with me until his day comes. I don't have a lot of experience with Draft horses but I am so taken with their grace and beauty. Do you recommend any websites or any good books that I may read to learn more about them BEFORE I start spending time with people that own them and getting more of a "hands on" education? Also are their any diseases Shire horses are more prone to getting than other horses? That's all for now. I have your website bookmarked.
Thanks!
Karen

Hi!
This is Sophia and Imogen we both absolutly LOVE horses and ponies! We are going to get a horse or ponie when we are 12 so right now we have to wait because we are 9 years old.
We have horse riding lessons with some other horse crazy friends at Burnside Equestrian Centre. Are favourite ponies are Seby,Peanut,Jaffa and Billy. Seby is gorgeous, loving and very greedy. Peanut is very friendly, an exellent jumper with a lovely temperment. Jaffa is a beautiful skewbald mare with big loving eyes. Billy is a fab pony he has a great canter ( it feels like your flying. )
We hope you enjoyed reading this!

I enjoyed your web site. I lost my two beloved OES, both in the past year & a half. One was 14 years old, and he had a large tumor that had compressed his spinal column, resulting in paralysis. The 2nd was my little Molly, 10 years old, who developed osteocarcoma and had to be put to sleep last week. I miss them so much. And seeing all the puppies on your site, with all the pictures, was great. I want to be added to your waiting list so that, if I do not find a puppy in the meantime, I will be eligible for one of Willie's next puppies. Thank you for your website -- it picked up my very low spirits. OES's are the best dogs ever!

My name is Lucienne and I live in Holland. I own a five years shire-gelding, named Ros van Ooit. The breeder is "Het land van Ooit" in Holland, so he is a real Dutch Shire-horse. His father is Middleton Monarch.
I'd like to tell all the visitors of this site that we have in Holland a dutch shire-horse society.
They organize each year a real shire-horse show in Holland.
Interested? Call Peter Markus 0165-379317.

Hi!!
I´m doing an homepage about our riding club and our horses, i also have an discussion board where you can ask about horses that you wonder about. Maybe your favourite horse has been sold to Sweden and you want to ask if anyone has seen him/her??
I have written to all riding clubs in SWEDEN so they know about this site and maybe someone recognize your horse.
Just visit my site and press the button Efterlysningar and post your wanted horse.
Maybe you want to look at our horses at the club?? We have many horses imported from Ireland, most of them actually. Press the button Hamre ridskola and then Lektionshästar or Gamla Lektionshästar and have a look.I know that many of the Swedish riding clubs import horse from England and Ireland. So maybe you´ll find something about your horse or pony...
Sincerly

I am a mounted police officer in Providence RI. Recently started using a new mount. After some checking I learned he ( Dino ) is an english shire . We purchased him in Kingston Ont. He is great looking horse and has the temperment for becoming a fine police horse. He works daily in the downtown area , and has no fear. he does everything from tagging parked auto to dispersing large groups of people after the nightclubs close. Thanks for the nice pictures and great website.

I have gotten SO hooked on your foal cam, and I knew Gracie would foal last night...waited until around 11:30 (here in the east) and finally had to go to bed...:-( thanks for letting us share this special moment with you and Gracie! My sister has seven horses (well, one's a mini donkey)...she has one draft (a Percheron) and we both just drool over your Shires! Love your horse philosophy and love seeing HAPPY HEALTHY CONTENTED and mannerly horses!!!! Keep it up!

I visit your website almost every day at lunch time. It is so refreshing to find people who consider what is best for the horse, not just what will make the most money, or win the most ribbons. Your horses are incredibly beautiful!! Out of all the Shire websites I have visited, yours is the best. The pictures are great and the captions are very informative. I became interested in Shires about 3 years ago during a long illness. I saw an advertisement for Fox Valley Farms and requested information from them. I am definitely hooked. Shires make my two Polish Arabians seem like ponies!! If I am in the Colorado Springs area, may I come visit? All the best, Kris Pavlik

I ince owned an Old english sheep dog and he was an excellent farm dog. People need to know the Old sheepdog is still a good farm dog.
Now, the word horse is Friesian, or perhaps old Anglo-Saxon was closer to Friesian than German. But the Shire really looks as if he's related to the Friesian, although the later has had a bunch of andalusian blood bred into him. Just a thought. I'm glad someone is keeping the old breed alive. Best of luck to you.

Love your site. We have a 7 yr old Shire, Dan, that we purchased from a young lady who had gotten him as a six month old from Clark Jensen of Blair, Nebraska. He was +2 yrs old when we got him. Had to teach him manners, like not to walk on our heels! They really are gentle giants, but those feet weigh a lot. My husband, Dave - 6'6" - trail rides Dan. We're having trouble finding tack (bridle, halter, etc.) to fit him however. Dan's head is 36" from his ears to the end of his nose. Dave uses a full quarter horse western saddle on him. Our daughter has ridden him in an English saddle - more comfortable for us girls as he's so broad w/the western saddle it's not too comfortable. If anyone knows where to get good tack for these guys, please let me know. Again - love the site. It's great to see such response to this breed. Sandy

I Love your shires! I'm not as interested in shires as I am Belgians but now I've taken more interest in them! That stallion you have up for stud is gorgeouss! I always thought of Shires as roman nosed heavy horses, but now I've changed my outlook on them! You horses are beautiful! I own a Breyer & Model horse hobby farm and have decided to get some Shire models now too!

You have a great philosophy about showing. People do lots of things that are unnatural and harmful. So, I was just wondering, if you don't want this done to your horses, to whom are you selling the horses that you breed?

I just love draft horses, unfortunatly there are not so many around here. Your homepage is great too, except the green in the left frame. It doesn't fit somehow. Your horses are simply breathtaking! I have wanted a Shire since I was a very young girl, but being a often uprooted "Navy brat" had little time to even ride, much less own one. My fiance and I are currently studing all that we can about horses and deffinitely will have a Shire someday, when we're more experienced. Any advice you could give us "novice enthusiasts" would be greatly appreciated! All the best to you and your most impressive "herd!"

You have beautiful examples of the English Shire!
I am a high school English teacher, and I used pictures of
your beautiful horses and your jousting tourney photos to
show my seniors knights in action and perfect examples of
the English heavy horse. We even measured out how high 18
hands was on our classroom wall so we could get a good
idea of how big the horses had to be to hold the medieval
knights. Your site made our study of Le Morte'd Arthur and
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight come alive. Keep up the
good work and "someday" I just might be priveledged
enough to own one of your babies! :)
